Abstract
Este artículo es el primero de una serie de ensayos sobre una
aproximación a la pelea a palos o juego de palos, llamado también juego de
garrote. Se precisa una definición de acuerdo a las experiencias y consultas
hechas por el autor, así como su punto de vista sobre la pelea a palos en
Venezuela y la difusión que se le está dando. Se mencionan algunas escuelas
para ilustrar su tradición, y se finaliza haciendo unas acotaciones puntuales
sobre los trabajos de investigación sobre este sistema de pelea venezolano
realizados por el artesano y peleador de palos Eduardo Sanoja.
