dc.description.abstract | En la Mérida de finales del siglo XVIII, las nupcias dejaron de ser un asunto
familiar y privado, para convertirse en una cuestión de Estado. Esto trajo
como consecuencia que el mantenimiento del orden social fuese una cualidad
más importante que la libre elección de un(a) cónyuge. Algunos padres de
familia, para no quebrantar su status y evitar el relajamiento de su prole,
entablaron juicios de disensos contra el que quisiera emparentarse con su
hija sin su consentimiento; y, excepcionalmente, también hubo acciones
judiciales promovidas por pretendientes con el fin de hacer valer su palabra de
matrimonio frente a la negativa de algunos suegros o prometidas, renuentes al
sacramento nupcial. A través del estudio de cinco casos de disenso matrimonial,
consultados en la sección Disensos, Matrimonios y Divorcios del Archivo General
del estado Mérida (AGEM), daremos cuenta de estas peripecias. | es_VE |

dc.description.abstract1 | Merida in the late eighteenth century, the marriage stopped being a family and
private matter, to become a state matter. This resulted in the maintenance of social order was a more important quality that the free choice of spouse. Some
parents, not to break their status and avoid the relaxation of their children, filed
dissents judgments against which his daughter would marry into without their
consent; and, exceptionally, there were also legal actions brought by claimants in
order to assert their troth against the refusal of some laws or promised, reluctant
to nuptial sacrament. Through the study of five cases of marital dissension,
consulted in the dissents, Marriages and Divorces section in Archives Mérida
