Resumen en otro Idioma | Correctly identifying the arch form helps to develop an appropriate orthodontic treatment plan, achieving long-term occlusal stability. According to some authors there are differences when comparing the dental arch form of women with that of men. The aim of this study is to determine if there are differences between men and women in the arch form of the maxilla and mandible and to determine the prevalence of each. The research was descriptive, transversal and observational. The study universe was 780 orthodontic pre-treatment study models. The sample was 190 study models. The arch forms were classified into oval, triangular and square. Kappa and Xi2 tests were performed. It was found that there are significant statistical differences between women and men in the maxilla, however, in the mandible no significant statistical differences were found. When the shape of the dental arch in the maxilla did not coincide with that of the mandible in the same individual, several combinations were found between them. Both women and men present in the maxilla and the mandible the oval arch shape with the highest percentage, followed by the square and in less proportion the triangular arch shape. It is important to consider these data at the time of making the treatment plan, and thus individualize the arch shape in each patient. |
