Resumen en otro Idioma | An experiment was carried out to evaluate the effect of different levels of balanced feed restriction (FR: 0, 15, 30 and 45%) on the ad libitum intake of pumpkin (Cucurbita maxima) (PI) and on the productive performance of finishing pigs. Twenty four crossbred pigs (Yorkshire - Landrace) with average live weight of 55.72 kg were used. The analysis of variance included the effect of levels of restriction (FR) and sex. There was an effect of FR (P< 0.05) on the total weight gain (TWG) and daily weight gain (DWG), obtaining the following values: 42.58, 41.96, 34.66 and 32.00 kg; 1.01, 0.99, 0.82 and 0.76 kg, respectively. There was an increment of PI as the FR level increased (0.217, 0.312 and 0.468 kg of dry matter, respectively), however the PI of animals in the 30 and 45% FR levels was not enough to compensate for the corresponding FR and therefore they had a lower total dry matter intake (2.959, 2.934, 2.414 and 2.176 kg). No effect was observed on feed conversion (2,98; 2,96; 2,94 and 2,87 Kg) and on the relative economic feeding index (Bs 9847; 8462; 5645 and 5751). Days to reach the market weight (36,48; 34,33; 41,47 and 47,10) was higher for the 45% FR. The castrated males had the same DWG as the female animals (0.915 vs 0.880 kg) as well as feed conversion (2.96 vs 2.93 kg). The best performance was obtained when 0 and 15% FR levels were used. |
