| es_VE |

dc.description.abstract1 | The painter Remedios Varo was born in Angles, a town in the province of Gerona, situated to the north of Barcelona. She acquired her artistic background in the Escuela de Bellas Artes in Madrid. Her life, however, was to be marred by political instability in Spain and the events of the Civil War. These circumstances led her to immigrate fi rst to France where she established contact with the members of Surrealism. This movement had a deep infl uence on her work. Her life in France was further interrupted by the Nazi occuation in 1940 and she was forced to immigrate to Mexico where she lived until her death. In Mexico she was able to continue her work and her inquiries into the nature of art. Above all, she was able to achieve her own language. Her paintings would thus be defi ned. In her paintings, feminine issues, daily life, the domestic world of home and the things that fi ll it, and in addition, nature and the cosmos, all were inspired by an artistic conscience that sees the world as a planet where everything is linked in a network of relationships. | es_VE |
