| dc.description.abstract | El 3 de mayo de 1956 el gobierno de Venezuela y la FAO firman un acuerdo para el establecimiento en nuestro país del Instituto de Investigación y Capacitación Forestales (ILICF), que luego se denominaría Instituto Forestal Latinoamericano de
Investigación y Capacitación (IFLA-IC) y cuya sede sería la Facultad de Ciencias Forestales de la ULA, lo cual sirvió para
que nuestra Universidad se proyectara a escala internacional como nunca antes. Se reseña en el presente artículo el proceso
que comprende el inicio de los estudios forestales en Mérida (1948), la fundación del IFLA-IC, su estructura y funcionamiento y su conversión finalmente en una institución nacional independiente de la FAO (1981). | es_VE |

| dc.description.abstract1 | On May 3rd, 1956, the Venezuelan government and the FAO signed an agreement to establish in our country the Forestry Training and Research Institute (ILICF, in Spanish), which would be later named Latin American Forestry Institute of Research and Training (IFLA-IC, in Spanish) based at the Faculty of Forestry Sciences at the ULA, which made our University be projected internationally as never before. In the following article there is a revision of the process marking the beginning of forestry studies in Mérida (1948), the foundation of the IFLA-IC, its structure and functioning and its final
