| es_VE |

dc.description.abstract1 | A study was performed associated to the bio -accumulation of C. perfringens and its relation with the fecal coliform group (CF) and E. coli (Ec), in zones of Sucre State where mussels are extracted. Between August 2005 and August, 2006, samples of mussels were gathered in three production zones (Ensenada La Chica, Bahía Iglesia and Punta Patilla). The Most Probable Number (MPN) of C. perfringens /g in the mussel was determined by the milk-iron method, and the bacteria CF and Ec by the method in American Public Health Association (APHA, 1992). Important quantitative variations were obtained in Ensenada La Chica with values between <3 to 9.3×10 NMP C. perfringens /g; values at Bahía Iglesia and Punta Patilla fluctuated between <3 to 2.0×10 and <3 to 7.1×10 NMP C. perfringens /g, respectively. The variation of NMP/g for CF and Ec in Ensenada La Chica for CF were 4.0×10 .1×10 and for Ec 4.0×10-9.3×10. Concentrations in Bahía Iglesia and Punta Patilla were less dense. A significant and positive correlation coefficient were observed between the CF Group and C. perfringens (r=0.41, P<0.01). An analysis of variance did not indicate significant differences between months or locations for C. perfringens concentration, which suggests the permanent presence of fecal pollution in the study areas. The use of C. perfringens could be advantageous as a fecal pollution indicator in order to characterize an area with potential for aquaculture but that could be highly contaminated. | es_VE |
