(64%) respecto a los grupos de 40; 20 y 10 mg de FGA (100;
82 y 100%, respectivamente).
| es_VE |

dc.description.abstract1 | To determine the effect of decreasing the dose in sponges impregnated
with fluorogestone acetate (FGA) through the partition
of the sponges, on estrous characteristics, concentration
of luteinizing hormone (LH), progesterone (P4) and gestation
rate, 44 ewes were randomly assigned to the following treatments:
I: Control group, a complete sponge, 40 mg FGA
(n=11); II: half sponge group, 20 mg FGA (n=11); III: a quarter
sponge group, 10 mg FGA (n=11); and IV: one eighth sponge
group, with 5 mg FGA (n=11). Sponges remained inserted for
12 d and, 10 d after insertion, all groups received a 15 mg
dose of prostaglandin F2 (PGF2 ). Data were analyzed by using
SAS program. There were no differences (P>0.05) in presentation
and onset of estrous among groups. There were differences
in pre-ovulatory LH peak amplitude (P<0.05) among
groups with 65 ± 6.40 ng mL–1 for 5 mg group, compared to 40,
20 and 10 mg of FGA groups, with (41 ± 9.21; 38 ± 7.94 and
23 ± 4.68 ng mL–1, respectively). Progesterone concentrations
were not different (P>0.05) between groups. Pregnancy rate
was lower (P<0.05) in 5 mg group (64%), compared to 10, 20
and 40 mg of FGA groups (100, 82 and 100%, respectively). It
is concluded that reducing doses of FGA to 20 and 10 mg by
dividing the sponge, does not modify either presentation or onset
of estrus nor alter LH and P4 serum concentrations; however, 5 mg FGA reduced estrous duration and LH amplitude,
decreasing pregnancy rate, therefore, a low dose of progestin
has a negative influence on fertility of the sheep. | es_VE |
