dc.description.abstractEl presente estudio se circunscribe a las relaciones entre las manifestaciones rupestres venezolanas y el sistema de creencias presentes en el totemismo. Se abordarán algunas aproximaciones de significancia para ciertas grafías, vinculándolas con una interpretación de origen totémico, partiendo del análisis del valor simbólico desde la perspectiva del propio diseño como representación y de su comparación con los diseños y los rituales y mitos relacionados con las manifestaciones rupestres que se conservan en la región del noroeste amazónico, territorio ancestral de los grupos maipure-arawak.es_VE

dc.description.abstract1The intention is to establish the relation between indigenous petroglyphs and belief systems as they are expressed in the idea of the totem. It would appear that some carvings are indicative of concepts that originate with the particular significances of the totem. Under analysis the figures may be seen to contain symbolic meanings that are inherent in the design. The rituals and the myths that are represented in these petroglyphs, preserved in the north-eastern part of the Venezuelan Amazon area, pertain to the ancestral territories of the Maipure-Arawak tribes.es_VE
