Cada sociedad construye según su sistema de valores y creencias,
realiza una interpretación cultural de la enfermedad y ejecuta una terapéutica
destinada a la prevención y curación. La siguiente ponencia describe los métodos
de profilaxis wayuu asociados con la tuberculosis, con el objetivo de interpretar
su significado y función en la sociedad tanto en el pasado como en el presente.
El método utilizado fue la etnografía. Para ello se entrevistaron 10 hombres y
10 mujeres de la etnia residentes en los municipios Mara y Páez del Estado
Zulia- Venezuela. Los resultados evidencian, que hay un grado importante de
preocupación por la pérdida de vigencia de algunos procedimientos profilácticos
realizados antiguamente para tratar enfermedades contagiosas como la
tuberculosis. En la actualidad, el pueblo wayuu en su interés por incorporar
al enfermo de nuevo a la esfera colectiva, eliminan la medida del aislamiento
restándole eficacia a la profilaxis tradicional. Otras personas de esa misma
cultura, poseen percepciones diferentes que favorecen el uso de la práctica del enterramiento de objetos considerados patógenos. De esta manera, ha
sido necesario repensar en la importancia que tiene algunos procedimientos
profilácticos asociados a la tuberculosis en los wayuu hoy día, que tienden por
un lado a la valoración pero por otro lado a la desaparición de algunas de estas
prácticas, debido a los embates que enfrentan de la medicina alopática moderna
a menudo discriminatoria del antiguo saber wayuu.

The following paper describes the methods of prophylaxis Wayuu associated with tuberculosis, in order to interpret their meaning and function in society both past and present. The method used was ethnography. This interviewed 10 men and 10 women of ethnic residents Mara and Paez municipalities in Zulia State, Venezuela. The results show that there is a significant degree of concern over the loss of life of some prophylactic procedures performed in ancient times to treat diseases such as tuberculosis. At present, the Wayuu people in their interest in incorporating the patient back to the collective sphere, far removed from isolation effectively subtracting traditional prophylaxis. Other people in the same culture, have different perceptions that favor the use of the practice of burying objects considered pathogens. Thus, it was necessary to rethink the importance of some prophylactic procedures associated with TB in the Wayuu today one hand tend to valuation but otherwise the disappearance of some of these practices, because the shocks faced by modern allopathic medicine often old discriminatory know Wayuu. |
