| dc.description.abstract | En Europa durante el siglo
XVIII, pero especialmente a finales
de este período y a principios del siglo
XIX en América Hispana, fi lósofos,
académicos y médicos realizaron
grandes esfuerzos por crear y difundir
una serie de discursos higienistas con
la finalidad de orientar a la población
hacia la reconfiguración del orden
social y a evitar los llamados males
sociales. Éstos manuales estuvieron
dirigidos particularmente a las mujeres
y a su maternidad, a través de la cual se
redefi nió un nuevo modelo de feminidad
dirigida hacia las buenas madres,
las madres-educadoras, aquellas que
eran capaces de reproducir no sólo
físicamente, sino también moralmente
individuos idóneos al nuevo orden

academic staff and physicians made
great efforts to create and disseminate
a series of hygienists’ speeches in
order to guide the population towards
reconfiguration of the social order
and avoid so-called social ills. These
manuals were led particularly to women
and their maternity, through which
redefined a new model of femininity
aimed to good mothers, educator
mothers, those that were able to
reproduce not only physically but also
morally appropriate individuals to the
