| dc.description.abstract | Las relaciones diplomáticas entre Japón y Argentina han tenido entre sus actores a
la comunidad nikkei -inmigrantes japoneses y descendientes-. De una diáspora,
pasó gradualmente a integrarse en la sociedad receptora. Hoy nuevamente están
entre los temas de la agenda en la política exterior japonesa y cobra importancia.
Este trabajo plantea algunas de las razones de esa transformación, se refl exiona sobre
los nuevos desafíos existentes en la comunidad de los países latinoamericanos, en
su proceso de capitalizar su herencia cultural para ponerla al servicio del desarrollo

| dc.description.abstract1 | The history of the diplomatic relations between Japan and Argentina has had
the Nikkei community –Japanese immigrants and their descendants - among its
participants. Its role has changed throughout the years: from being a diaspora to
gradually becoming part of the host society. Nowadays, again, this community is
one the topics of the Japanese Foreign Policy Agenda and it gains new relevance.
Th is paper discusses some of the reasons for this transformation and refl ects upon
the new challenges that this situation off ers to the community in Latin American
countries, in the process of capitalizing its cultural heritage to put it at the service
