dc.description.abstract | Objetivo: Determinar la prevalencia de obesidad en adultos de la región Capital evaluados en el estudio EVESCAM. Métodos: Estudio poblacional, observacional, transversal, de muestreo aleatorio poliestratifi cado por conglomerados. Se evaluaron 416 sujetos desde los 20 años de edad, de 7 comunidades de la Región Capital desde julio 2015 hasta enero 2016: El Retiro (n=50); Miranda: Municipio de Chacao: Casco Central (n=104) y Bello Campo (n=56); Los Teques: La Cima (n=39); Guatire: Centro (n=56), Castillejo (n=48) y del área rural, La Candelaria (n=63). Bajo peso, normopeso, sobrepeso y obesidad fue defi nido como índice de masa corporal (IMC) <18,5 kg/m2, 18,5-24,9 kg/m2, ≥25 a 29,9 kg/m2 y ≥ 30 kg/m2, respectivamente. Obesidad abdominal se defi nió como circunferencia abdominal ≥94 cm en hombres y ≥90cm en mujeres; alto porcentaje de grasa >25% en hombres y >35% en mujeres. Resultados: La prevalencia de sobrepeso y obesidad según IMC fue de 36,6% y 30% respectivamente, sin diferencias por género. La prevalencia de bajo peso fue del 2,4%. La obesidad abdominal se presentó en el 63,7% y el alto porcentaje de grasa en el 56,7%. La obesidad abdominal aumentó signifi cativamente con la edad. El alto porcentaje de grasa varió acorde a las poblaciones evaluadas, siendo mayor en La Cima (84,6%) y más bajo en el Centro de Guatire (39,3%). Conclusión: Se observó una alta prevalencia de sobrepeso, obesidad, obesidad abdominal y aumento de la adiposidad en la región Capital de Venezuela. | es_VE |

Low weight, normal weight, overweight and obesity was defi ned as body mass index (BMI) <18.5 kg/m2, 18.5-24.9 kg/m2, ≥25.0-29.9 kg/m2 and ≥30.0 kg/m2, respectively. Abdominal obesity was defi ned as abdominal circumference ≥94 cm in men and ≥90 cm in women; high percentage of fat >25% in men and >35% in women. Results: : The prevalence of overweight and obesity according to BMI was 36.6% and 30% respectively. The prevalence of low weight was 2.4%. Abdominal obesity prevalence was 63.7% and high fat percentage prevalence was 56.7%. Abdominal obesity increased signifi cantly with age. The high percentage of fat varied according to the evaluated populations, being higher in La Cima (84.6%) and lower in the Guatire Center (39.3%). Conclusion: A high prevalence of overweight, obesity, abdominal obesity and increased adiposity was observed in the Capital region of Venezuela. | es_VE |
