| Resumen en otro Idioma | The notion of “the commons” refers to all goods tangible and intangible, that cons titute the collective heritage of a community. This new construct implies an ex pansion of language and a redefi nition of existing paradigms and cultural stances. As a new cultural form, the “discourse on the commons” presents several important characteristics: it is descriptive, constitutive, and expressive. Through this new language, members of the human group can recognize themselves as “people” and establish a direct link with the phy sical space, as well as relationships of social solidarity among themselves. The fruit of the complex relationships that exist among all the elements present in the ecosystem is “life.” Therefore, it is necessary to generate a “new unit of analysis.” This documentary research aims to review different economic paradigms to analyze how the “unit of analysis” has changed over time and to demonstrate that the “new unit of analysis” must be the notion of “living space” (oikos). Fur thermore, it argues that the development of a life-generating economy is founded on the postulate that the economy must serve the human being, and not the other way around. |
