| es_VE |

dc.description.abstract1 | Each society built by system of values and beliefs, makes a cultural
interpretation of illness and runs a therapy for the prevention and cure. The
following paper describes the methods of prophylaxis Wayuu associated with
tuberculosis, in order to interpret their meaning and function in society both
past and present. The method used was ethnography. This interviewed 10 men
and 10 women of ethnic residents Mara and Paez municipalities in Zulia State,
Venezuela. The results show that there is a significant degree of concern over
the loss of life of some prophylactic procedures performed in ancient times
to treat diseases such as tuberculosis. At present, the Wayuu people in their
interest in incorporating the patient back to the collective sphere, far removed
from isolation effectively subtracting traditional prophylaxis. Other people in the
same culture, have different perceptions that favor the use of the practice of
burying objects considered pathogens. Thus, it was necessary to rethink the
importance of some prophylactic procedures associated with TB in the Wayuu
today one hand tend to valuation but otherwise the disappearance of some of
these practices, because the shocks faced by modern allopathic medicine often
