Abstract
Se busca en este artículo contribuir al conocimiento de la sociedad de la antigua provincia de Maracaibo, abordando la cultura material en la parroquia rural Inmaculada Concepción de La Cañada durante la primera mitad del siglo XIX a la escala del espacio construido de las viviendas domésticas. Entendiendo cultura material como la expresión tangible de la cultura, creadora de significados y activa en la constitución de las relaciones sociales, se investigan las tipologías constructivas, funcionales, formales y sintácticas de las viviendas domésticas de la parroquia, y se analizan las relaciones mutuamente constitutivas entre la organización espacial de las viviendas y las representaciones y prácticas sociales de los habitantes de la parroquia.

| Resumen en otro Idioma | This article seeks to contribute to the knowledge of the society of the former Province of Maracaibo, by studying the material culture in the rural parish of La Inmaculada Concepción de La Cañada during the first half of the 19th century, at the scale of the built space of domestic dwellings. Understanding material culture as the tangible expression of culture, active in creating meaning and in the constitution of social relations, the constructive, functional, formal and syntactic typologies of the domestic dwellings of the parish are investigated, and the mutually constitutive relationships between the spatial organization of the dwellings and the representations and social practices of the inhabitants of the parish are analyzed. |
