Resumen en otro Idioma | Traditionally, the study of forests has been done on the basis of information described in a variety of tables and graphs, however, the possibility for evaluating and analyzing the stands visually by means of computational tools can help in decision making. The goal of this paper is to present the application of a growth model for the uneven aged and mixed forests in Durango, Mexico. The growth model has been included in computational software BWINPro7, which allows the simulation of individual tree growth and the development of silvicultural regimes, and can use data of permanent sample plots to predict future yield growth information. Moreover, it helps to define harvest planning and to calculate the allowable cut. It also offers the possibility for evaluating and analyzing the stands visually, permitting the description of the spatial distribution of the trees within the stand, which increases the level of detail in the analysis. The forest growth simulator presented in this article has become an important management tool, in the sustainable timber planning of the region, because it offers the opportunity of simulating and analyzing different silvicultural alternatives. |
