Resumen en otro Idioma | This article deals with the image of Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla´s revolt by the press of the Viceroyalty of New Spain and of the Spanish metropolis, from its beginnings with the Grito de Dolores on September 16, 1810 until Hidalgo´s execution in Chihuahua on July 30, 1811. Through this analysis we will establish how as a mirror of what had happened with the Spanish press after the French invasion, the Newspanish newspapers abandoned their traditional informative role to become a key tool in the defeat of the insurrection. |
