Snake bite

In the face of this patient around both eyes annular haemorrhages are seen extending to the cheek bone region (so called spectacle haematoma). In the further examination of the patient he related that he was bitten by a snake.

Erythema

In an 18 - months - old boy very reddish skin alterations appeared on both upper eyelids accompanied by fever. They are circular, slightly elevated, dark red and extend to the inner eye angles of both eyes and the tarsi. On the left cheek additionally exists another erythematoid focus, but is not circular.

Snake bite

The patient came from Altamira, a village in the lower parts of the Venezuelan Andes, presenting in addition a swollen elbow joint the diameter of the knee joint. Here two small puntiform wounds of a snake bite were seen.

Erythema

A skin biopsy reveals numerous, partly dilated capillaries surrounded by histiocytic elements. In several capillaries a heavy swelling of the endothelial cells can be seen. This type of erythema is called also Erythema annulare centrifugum (Darier).

Snake bite

Here we show a snake from the type Bothrops, in Venezuela called Mapanare, causing frequently dangerous, life-threatening bites in the country population. From 1971 to 1980 in Venezueola 10947 snake bites were registered, 725 (6,62%) of them with a deathly course.
